Getting Started

  

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association provides opportunities for athletes in the most exciting Olympic action sports. It is driven by a vision to be best in the world with an emphasis on building character through strong personal values. The USSA's programs provide education, development and competition opportunities for young athletes, from grassroots USSA club programs up through national teams and the Olympic Winter Games.

It's easy for young athletes to get started in USSA competition programs in any sport. Simply follow these steps and you'll be on the starting line soon!

Freestyle Disciplines

Freestyle is made up of five different disciplines; aerials, halfpipe, moguls, skicross, and slopestyle. 
 

Join USSA

Become a member of the USSA to gain access to local and national competitions in your home area. The USSA offers youth or entry level memberships in all sports. Click here to checkout USSA membership.


Join a local USSA Club:
The USSA's network of 400 clubs nationwide offers young athletes professional coaching and program direction as well as logistical support. Click here for a listing of USSA Clubs in your area.


Take Part in Competitions:
Check the USSA competition calendar for your local area to select competitions for your age and ability level. You can also view each divisional events on each divisional website. The event organizer or your USSA Club can help you. The USSA offers introductory ‘non-scored’ events for youth athletes to promote skill development and fun. But for advancement, older athletes take part in USSA scored competitions, with the USSA Competitor membership, to improve their ranking.


Volunteers

If you are a parent, family or friend that would like to help run a regional competiton then contact your Division Chair person.  Volunteer support is needed on and off the hill.  Skiing skills are not required for off hill positions.

Judges/Officials

Another way to be apart and support freestyle is to become a judge or official.  For more information click here and/or contact your Division Chair person.

Coaches

Coaches are extremely important to the deveolpment of athletes.  USSA supports the continual education for coaches of all levels.  If you are interested in sharpening your skills and knowledge click here for information.

Nominees will be accepted winter 2012 and posted here March 2012.  USSA  Freestyle Coaches are eligible to vote.  No mass votes will be counted, one vote per coach.
