USSA Tuition Assistance

This program provides tuition assistance for U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding elite athletes who meet the eligibility criteria.

Who is eligible?
 

·         All current members of a 2010-11 USSA National Team.

·         Alumni are eligible for two years of financial assistance after they officially retire. Athletes who have been a national team member, for a minimum of three consecutive years, are eligible to receive tuition assistance for a maximum of two years without officially retiring. However, they will not receive two additional years of assistance once their retirement has been announced. All retirement dates and years of competition will be verified by the designated sport director.

·         Athlete must be in good financial standing with the USSA (you have paid all outstanding debts to the organization) and earn less than $50,000.00 per year.

 
School/course requirements:
 

·         Athlete must be admitted to a BS or BA program at an accredited four-year college or university, with all enrolled credits being degree applicable. All community college courses must be approved by Dr. Lauren Loberg, prior to enrollment, inorder to be considered.

·         Athlete must maintain a minimum 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) grade point average and must earn a grade of C or better in all enrolled courses.

 
Application Process
 

In order to receive funding for Summer 2010 through Spring 2011, you must complete the Application for Assistancein its entirety and return it on or before June 5, 2011. An official transcript or advising transcript, student bill and payment receipt(s) must be included in order to verify class enrollment, completion and grades. Additional Requirements:

       
  • Grades and receipts are due no later than June 5, 2011.

 

  • Eligible athletes must apply for at least one of the USOC's Tuition Grant and/or Scholarship Programs prior to applying for USSA Tuition Reimbursement. Contact Dr. Lauren Loberg to determine if you meet the USOC's eligibility requirements.

 

  • Technical or vocational school, high school, and post-graduate study are not eligible for tuition assistance. 

 

  • All available funds that are not awarded will be returned to the general scholarship fund. A portion of the available scholarship fund will be reserved for injured athletes, enabling them to access educational opportunities while they recover. The same eligibility criteria will apply to injured athletes. 

 

  • Credit card statements will not suffice as the only proof of tuition paid. Official documentation (or copies) with the letterhead of the school/college must be submitted with the application.

 

  • Reimbursements are for tuition and mandatory fees only and will be distributed once a year for completed courses within the prior academic cycle. Textbooks, parking permits, room and board charges, late fees, health service fees, internet fees, flight simulators, and other non-tuition expenses are not eligible for reimbursement.

 

  • Applications will be reviewed in June/July 2011. Checks will be sent out no later than August 2011.

 

  • Scholarship awards will be based upon the total endowment of the scholarship fund, divided by the number of eligible applicants. The USSA will provide financial assistance to all qualified applicants, not to exceed $2,500.00. Athletes may receive a matching contribution from the Shelby Davis Fund / Spence Eccles Fund, if additional financial assistance is required and available.
