Laptops for Learning

Apple laptops are made available to U.S. Ski Team or U.S. Snowboarding athletes to enable them to pursue online/distance-learning courses while traveling as a member of the U.S. Ski Team or U.S. Snowboarding.

 

Selection and Eligibility Criteria   

 
Who is eligible?
 

·       All current members of a 2010-11 USSA National Team.

·       Alumni are not eligible for this program.

·       Athletes must be in good financial standing with USSA (which means you do  not owe the organization any money) and earn less than $50,000 per year.

 

Application Process and Requirements             

 

Submit Laptops for Learning request at least four weeks prior to the start of your online/distance learning course(s). Proof of enrollment/acceptance must accompany the laptop application. 

                                                                        
  • Apple Macbookpro laptops are available to athletes who are currently enrolled in an online course at an accredited college or university.

 

  • You may keep the laptop as long as you continue to take courses online, show progress toward a designated degree or high school diploma and meet the minimum grade point requirements.

 

·       Athlete must maintain a minimum 2.00 (on a 4.00 scale) grade point average and must earn a grade of C or better in all enrolled courses.

 

·       Progress toward a designated degree or diploma must be provided to USSA routinely to insure continued use of the laptop. All college courses must be degree applicable.

 

·       Both online and independent study classes are permitted.

 

  • If you fail to provide USSA proof that you are enrolled in an online course, you must return the laptop to the USSA. You will be responsible for the shipping costs and any damage acquired during transit.

 

·       If you are sent an email requesting proof of enrollment, you are required to respond within 10 days. If you do not respond within the timeline given, we will assume you are sending your laptop back to the USSA. If we do not receive the proof of enrollment or the laptop within 30 days, we will invoice you for the replacement cost of the computer.

 

·       Athletes may take the distance learning/online courses at a college of his/her choice. It is strongly advised that you receive prior approval from the university or college you wish to transfer credit to before enrolling in any course.  Determine what requirement the course will fulfill and what grade is needed for you to receive credit and for the course to transfer. 

 

·       Class tuition costs are also eligible for reimbursement through the Tuition Assistance Program; if the classes you take meet that program's criteria.

 

·       A limited number of laptops are available. Priority will be given to athletes based on Team placement (A, B, C, and D) and number of years on the Team. Laptops are for athletes who intend to take a number of online courses over an extended period of time.

 

·       Internet fees will not be funded or reimbursed by the USSA.

 

·       Post-graduate study is not eligible.

 

·       Laptops will be maintained and serviced by the USSA Information Technology department. Laptops come with 4 year accidental damage and advanced replacement support. 

 

·       By signing the Laptops for Learning Application, you accept the terms of use and will abide by the rules of the program.

 

·         We currently provide the following:

 

o    Hardware - Macbookpro 13.3, Dual Core 2.4 Processor, 4G Memory, 500G Hard Drive, CD\DVD Writer

 

o    Software – Mac-OSX Snow Leopard and Microsoft Office 2008, PC – Windows 7 Pro, McAffee AV and Office 2010
