Q. How do I know if I need a USSA membership?
If you are participating in a USSA sanctioned event you must have a USSA membership.
Q. What is the quickest way to become a member?
Registering online provides immediate membership for USSA athlete members. Coach and official memberships may require successful completion of USSA's background screening prior to activation. Click here to register or renew your USSA membership online.
Q. Can I submit an application by fax or email?
Yes, the Member Service fax number is 435.647.2052 and email is membership@ussa.org. Please include a Visa or MasterCard for payment if submitting via fax or email. We recommend you call or email during business hours to confirm receipt. Hours of operation: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm Mountain Time. Faxes may be sent at any time.

Q. What methods of payment do you accept?
USSA accepts checks (personal or cashier), money orders, Visa and Mastercard.
Q. Can I renew/join over the phone?
No, USSA cannot accept registrations by phone. USSA accepts applications through our online registration system, by mail, fax or email.
Q. Do I have to fill out the paperwork each year?
No paperwork is required if you use the online registration and renewal system. If you prefer not to use the online system, a paper renewal will be necessary. If you do not have a renewal form, you must complete an application. To locate an application for your sport, please click here. Your medical insurance information is required. If you do not have primary medical insurance, you must complete a Medical Exception Agreement and submit that with your application. Click here to obtain a Medical Exception Agreement. It is the last link in the USSA Application section of the page.
Please note: A signature is required on the waiver portion of the application. Memberships will not be processed without these items.
Q. Do I have to be affiliated with a club?
No, you do not. Some members choose to race independently and are not affiliated with a club.
Q. How long does it take to get a membership processed?
Online registration for USSA athlete memberships is immediate. Paper applications and renewals may take several weeks depending on the time of the competition season. Manual memberships are processed in the order received.
If you choose to register using a paper application or renewal, please submit your application early, allowing ample time before your event to insure that your membership is processed.
Coach and official memberships may require successful completion of USSA's background screening prior to activation.
Q. Do I need to add the Rush Fee?
No rush fee is required if you are using the online registration system. If you need your membership processed quickly and choose to submit a paper application, you have the option of including a rush fee of $25, which will insure processing within one-two business days.
The rush fee only applies to processing of the membership. Once processed you may download proof of membership using the Member Lookup tool. Click on the highlighted membership number that will appear on the lefthand side of the screen. You may print this membership card to use as proof of membership.
NOTE: USSA can rush the processing of a coach or official membership, but cannot rush the screening. So although your coach or official membership can be processed in 1-2 business days with a Rush Fee, positive screening results must be received by USSA before a coach or official is eligible to participate.
Q. When does the late fee go into effect?
Most renewals are due in our office or must be completed online no later than October 15. October 15 is also the deadline for Division/State late fees. Please get your paperwork in before then in order to avoid paying the late fee. After October 15 your membership will not be processed without all applicable late fees. See below for those membership categories that are exempt from the late fee.
Q. Does everyone pay the late fee?
New members are exempt from late fees. The USSA late fee is applied to all renewing members, with the exception of those holding a youth membership, or those who hold only an Official’s Membership. If any other membership is held then the USSA late fee does apply. Please be advised that division and/or state organizations may charge a late fee in addition to the USSA late fee and may charge late fees to youth and official members.
Q. Does USSA offer a family discount?
No, there is not a family discount. There is a $35 discount for an INDIVIDUAL who holds more than one membership. Example: a person who holds a Coach membership and also a Masters. There is $25 discount for youth competitors holding two youth competitor memberships.
Q. Can I sign up at an event on the day of the race?
Some event organizers do let you sign up on the day of the race, but there is no guarantee. USSA recommends you sign up online to avoid problems and delays in activating your membership.
Q. Can you fax or email me proof of membership and/or receipt of membership?
You may print a membership card from this link. Just enter either the member’s name or membership number. Click on the highlighted membership number that will appear on the lefthand side of the screen.
This will provide a digital membership card. Our website updates in "real time" so you may access this information immediately once the membership has been processed and as often as needed. NOTE: Coaches and officials who are pending for background screening are not eligible to participate and will not be able to print a membership card until USSA receives a positive screening determination.
If you do not have internet access, please contact Member Services by phone at 435.647.2666 to obtain proof of membership by fax.
