USSA National Coaching Academies

The USSA National Coaches Academies are intensive, full-day coaches learning programs to enhance the professional development of USSA coaches beyond the USSA on-snow clinics.  Generally held in the spring and the fall, these academies usually include interaction with U.S. Ski Team staff and athletes, and other experts from the USSA, USOC (U.S. Olympic Committee), and other sport experts from around the world.  Content generally includes skiing/riding as well as classroom sessions on the topics of sport science, sport medicine, pedagogy, management, and leadership.

Description:
The Fall Alpine National Coaches Academy is the upper level coach's opportunity to get the most recent information on technique, tactics, sport science, teaching methodology, and athlete management heading into the new season.  Participants will spend three days on snow with the U.S. Ski Team athletes and coaching staff observing the national team training and working on solving common technical problems through drill progressions. The exchange of ideas with national team staff and the collection of top coaches from across the country is the perfect way to start of the season.  The on-snow sessions are followed by in-depth presentations and workshops led by U.S. Ski Team coaches, USSA High Performance staff, and other sport experts.

This academy represents the opportunity for USSA clubs to refine and enhance their technical and tactical progressions heading into the season, keeping current with the trends in our sport.  Coaches receive continuing education credit to keep their certification active.  Coaches who attended the coaching academies in the 1990's and early 2000's in particular are encouraged to attend for updated information.
